The Zefiro Express trains that SJ has purchased from Alstom will be the fastest trains ever on Sweden’s railways, with a top speed of 250 kilometres per hour. The first train is expected to enter service in 2026 and will be used for long-distance train services between major Swedish cities as well as for services to Norway and Denmark.

The trains will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including soundproofed carriages and radio-frequency transparent windows that facilitate data transmission through the windows and provide better mobile connectivity. Moreover, the train can operate on battery power in the event of a loss of power supply on the line.

SEK has issued Advance payment guarantees for the project. An Advance payment guarantee is used to secure the repayment of an advance to the buyer if delivery does not take place as agreed. In other words, the buyer requires the seller to issue a guarantee that enters into force once the seller has received the advance payment.
